Save our Cotswold Visitor Information Centres in Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold and Tetbury

to reverse their planned funding cuts of £54,000 annually, to help save our Visitor Information Centres in Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold and Tetbury

*Tourism is the lifeblood of the Cotswolds. It is one of the Cotswolds largest industries and the biggest contributor to our local economy providing thousands of jobs across the retail, hospitality and tourism sectors. Everyone in the Cotswolds will have family or friends working in a business connected with tourism.

*Given this importance, we are dismayed at the decision by Cotswold District Council (CDC) to scrap its annual funding support of £54,000 in total for local visitor information centres (VICs). Each of our VICs in Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold and Tetbury receive an annual grant which is vital to their future survival.

*In our key market towns across the Cotswolds, our VICs enhance the "visitor-experience" by providing visitors and residents alike with invaluable local knowledge on tourist and historical attractions, places to stay, eat and shop.

*In addition these information centres provide useful booking services for attractions and other local events. This facility is particularly helpful to those people who are either not able to use or uncomfortable with the internet or social media.

*It is only fair that part of the funding to run VICs should come from district-wide council tax as it has done for over thirty years.
