1.           Hackney Carriage Fare Review

The officer opened the meeting by provided a summary of the report to the Cabinet Member.

It was noted that the authority is responsible to review the fares, and due to a sudden increase in fuel prices, tariffs 1-3 are being reviewed.

The urgency of the situation due to rising prices means a decision to go to consultation needs to be taken.

It was outlined that if no valid objections are received within 14 days following the start of the consultation, the report recommends for it to proceed through delegated authority to the Licensing Team Leader to take effect from 15th July 2022. If there are valid objections, received within the 14 days, the matter will need to be considered further by Cabinet within two months of the first specified date (15th July 2022).

The Cabinet Member was satisfied with the approach of this decision following consultation with statutory officers upon receiving the request for a decision-meeting, and felt it was appropriate to the circumstances described.

Decision

The Cabinet Member considered the recommendations of the officer and resolved to accept recommendations a) and b) of the report.

Reason for Decision of the Cabinet Member for Development Management and Licensing

The Cabinet Member felt the decision was justified and reflected the urgent situation regarding the pressures caused by increases in fuel prices. It was also noted that the request was coming from drivers within the district, and this decision is in response to that.
