Minutes:

1.       Approval to Increase the Garden Waste Licence fee Amount by £7 to £47 per Licence in 2022/23 Financial Year

This report seeks the approval of the Cabinet Member for the Environment, Waste and Recycling to increase the garden waste licence fee amount to £47 for the 2022/23 financial year to fully offset the operational costs of providing the service.

Decision:

The Cabinet Member for the Environment, Waste and Recycling:

Supports increasing the garden waste licence fee amount to £47 for the 2022/23 financial year to fully offset the operational costs of providing the service.

Reason for Decision of the Cabinet Member for the Environment, Waste and Recycling:

Councillor Doherty noted that due to rising fuel and labour costs, it was necessary to increase the cost of the garden waste collection licences to ensure the service operated at a cost-neutral position going forwards.

Councillor Doherty further noted that support would continue to be provided to those households currently in receipt of Council Tax support and who required a green waste collection service based on a discount of 50%.

Councillor Doherty noted that despite the increase in the cost for the provision of this service, the Council would be charging a cheaper rate than many other local authorities and nearest neighbours.

The Council was committed to ensuring that the costs of providing garden waste collections would be delivered by way of a break-even position. This decision ensures that this will be the case and those residents who don’t subscribe to the service aren’t in effect, subsidising it through their Council tax.
