Minutes:

1.       Approval of Public Spaces Protection Order for Dog Fouling

This report seeks the approval of the Cabinet Member for the Environment, Waste and

Recycling to agree that the renewed PSPO for Dog Fouling be approved for a further

three years effective January 2022.

Decision:

The Cabinet Member:

Considered the report and agreed that the renewed PSPO for Dog Fouling be approved for a further three years effective January 2022.

Reason for Decision of the Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Finance:

The Cabinet Member for the Environment, Waste and Recycling acknowledged the requirement of having a Public Spaces Protection Order for Dog Fouling in place across the District. A PSPO was renewed every three years with the existing order expiring in January 2022.

The Cabinet Member noted the aim of the Council to reduce dog fouling. Two Officers had recently been appointed to provide support in this area.

The responses received following the PSPO consultation had demonstrated that there was significant support for the following proposals:

·         That the existing dog fouling provisions remain in place

·         That the level of fine remains at the maximum of £100 per offence

·         Prosecution of an offence is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale (£1,000). The maximum amount is fixed by statute.
