1.       £5,000 Contribution towards a Feasibility Study for the reinstatement of the Stratford-upon-Avon – Honeybourne – Worcester/Oxford Railway Line

The Stratford Rail Transport Group has been successful in a bid to the Reopening of Railways Fund. They have been awarded 75% of costs up to £50,000 for feasibility study for the Strategic Outline Business Case the restoration of passenger rail services between Stratford-upon-Avon station to Worcester and Oxford via Honeybourne Junctions on the Worcester-Oxford (via Moreton-in-Marsh and the North Cotswold Line).Cotswold District Council has been asked to contribute towards the remaining 25% of the cost, which is needed for the feasibility study.  If the line were to be reopened, it would link Moreton-in-Marsh to Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham and would also enable additional passenger rail services to call at Moreton-in-Marsh Railway Station.

Decision:

RESOLVED that a contribution of £5,000 towards the cost of the feasibility study be agreed by the Cabinet Member.

Reason for Decision of the Cabinet Member:

The Cabinet Member considered that the contribution was a sensible use of funding which would build good transport evidence for the Council’s Local Plan.
