Parking Charges Order Consultation

Decision Maker: Deputy Chief Executive (Chief Finance Officer)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To consider feedback from parking charges consultation

Decision:

To consider feedback from parking charges consultation

Reasons for the decision:

Having considered the feedback from the public consultation on the parking charges, we wish to proceed to proceed to make the Order, with the amendment of Tetbury West Street where Sunday charges will now start at 12pm.

Consultation with the Chamber of Commerce felt that there would be no wholesale objections to the introduction of Sunday charges.

The comment made by residents in Ashcroft Road/Gardens regarding the Sunday charges and Gloucestershire County Council introducing additional charges On Street were out of CDC control. There is free parking within the Town should residents with to park for free.

In making the decision, officers carefully considered and had due regard to the online petition (link to petition change.org) which received 1,212 signatures and 37 comments.

On balance, the view of officers in considering the representations made through the online petition is there was no evidence provided or available support to the main point raised that “High parking fees discourage visitors and locals alike from frequenting town centre businesses, further exacerbating their financial struggles.”

Alternative options considered:

Considered comments made by Councillor Ind and Tetbury Town Council to change the charging time on a Sunday to 12pm. This was agreed that aligning the charges times in Church Street & West Street would reduce confusion.
